Who Cares?
But they came back and had no idea about the camcorder; moreover, they realized that Harut's Walkman was also missing. Everything was clear now: both the camcorder and the Walkman had been stolen. Harut went to see miss Martha.
"Miss Martha, my camcorder and portable player have been stolen. I left them on the table when we were going out of the room. On our return we found them missing!"
"Oh, well, there's really nothing I can do about it," was her reaction.
"What you mean you can't? That's ridiculous! My valuables have been stolen from your motel room and that's all you have to tell me?"
"If they have been stolen, then it's a crime. Call police: nine, one, one," she said in a very calm voice.
"But maybe it's one of your housekeepers! The door wasn't broken, neither was the lock! It means no one forced in and it must've been someone who had a key!"
"I trust my girls as much as I do myself."
Harut didn't want to call police.
"It's no use, you see," he explained to Levon, "they will come, fill out the questionnaires and leave. They are not gonna find it anyway. Who cares in the long run?"
"You never know, man. They might find it. They should find it. I mean, they must find it!" said Levon. "If I'm not mistaken4 they withhold taxes from our paychecks for that purpose."
